My crazy morning

So, yesterday, I had one of the worst mornings I've had in a while. It started when Riley decided he didn't want to go to school that morning. He usually complains a little bit but is really fine with it and he walks into the room with a big smile. Yesterday, he decided to really not want to go to school, and he cried all the way there. His crying always makes me more stressed out and wanting to cry myself.
While on the way to school, I was waiting to turn right onto a one-way street, so, of course, I was looking left, seeing if I could turn on red. I started to pull out only to nearly run over 2 pedestrians crossing the street in front of my car! They were fine, thank God, but I was not. I pulled into the parking garage, totally shaking, and now I really was crying, along with Riley.
After getting Riley to his class, (sad, but no longer crying), I managed to settle down and take a test in my class that morning.
Later in the morning, I was taking the elevator up to the 3rd floor and the girls who were also in the elevator decided to squeeze as many people in the elevator as they could (about 10 or so). This was fine until we actually got up to the 3rd floor and the doors didn't open! Now, even tho I am closterphobic, I am usually ok on elevators, knowing that the doors will open and I can get out. When I am packed in the elevator and the doors don't open, I start to freak out. I almost immediately started sweating, and breathing hard, and eventually, crying again. Since I am not a loud or dramatic person, only a couple people noticed that I wasn't ok. Thankfully, we were only trapped about 10 minutes or so, but it was the longest 10 minutes of my life! It took a little while for me to really calm down after getting out, and at that point, all I wanted to do was go home!
So, I think I will be taking the stairs in that building for a while, even if I am huffing and puffing by the time I get to the third floor! The good news of the day was, I actually got a B on my test that morning!

So close to the Finish!!

Life has been so crazy busy for me lately, writing on this blogpage seems to be low on the list of priorities. But for my one reader (Grandma!) I'll do a quick update on life in the Patroff household.
I am 5 weeks away from finishing the semester! And only 6 months away from graduating as a Registered Nurse :) Wow, just writing that still seems so unreal to me. I feel like that day will never come! After years of waiting and studying and sacrificing, the finish line is finally coming into view. It will have taken me 7 years of school to accomplish that goal. Luke was just a baby when I started going to school part time and he will be 7 years old in January. I sincerely hope that the wait was worth it!! And it hasn't been just a sacrifice for me, but for my whole family. But none of my guys have ever complained about it. They've been nothing but supportive to me, and I can't wait for them to see me graduate in the spring.
As far as everyone else in the house goes, everyone is doing well, and there's not much to report. We did take Trae in for his bi-annual cardiologist check-up and all is well with him, thank God. His doctor actually wants to try to take him off of his medication, which I have mixed feelings about. He's been on this med since he was a year old and we were told he would be on it for his entire life. But there are different opinions among doctors about whether being on this med is actually necessary or even helps his condition. But, we decided to try it and see how he is in 6 months, so now he is on a half dose of what he was (a beta-blocker has to be weaned down, they can't just stop it cold turkey) So far, he seems to be at least acting the same, so we'll see when we go back in April if anything has changed. Riley has his bi-annual appointment next month, so keep him in prayer, believing for good reports :)
Here's some pictures of my boys on Halloween this year. They all went as Star Wars characters - what else would they be?

Orlando!

I know I've been terrible at blogging the past few months. There never seems to be enough hours in the day. I do want to post some pictures of our trip to Florida. It was an amazing vacation!!! Trae is still asking if we can go back :)

The boys loved to swim! We spent 90% of our free time at the hotel pool :)

At Discovery Cove, the boys also loved to snorkle! All except Riley, he didn't quite know how to use his!

This was the reason we got to go. So Trae could fulfill his wish of swimming with dolphins. We were so proud of him!

Me being able to also was just a bonus!
Luke was signed up to swim too, but the water was very cold and he was in a bad mood, so he stayed long enough to take this picture.

On the plane, on our way home

Playing Soccer

Luke started playing soccer for the Peoria Park District. He played last year, and had a blast doing it. Of course, sometimes he had more fun playing "Rock, Paper, Scissors" on the sidelines, but that's ok. He loves making new friends, and we have fun getting out of the house and watching him play.

Trae and Riley also like going to watch. Here they are, pretending to fight with their Star Wars Light Sabers.

Easter Egg Hunt

This morning we went to the Easter Egg Hunt at RockChurch. The boys had a good time, and came home with plenty of candy! And it was finally warm today! Hopefully, spring is here to stay.

Riley only found these 7 eggs, but was so excited about it! He would find one and dust off all of the grass and dirt, look at it for a minute, then put it in his bucket. He had a great time!

Trae and Luke also had fun. It was really a race to see who could get to the eggs the fastest!

It's so hard to get all three of them to look at the same time! Notice the difference in the amount of eggs :)

Riley's favorite thing to do with his bucket - he thought he looked like Darth Vador from Star Wars.

Make a Wish Update

I know I've already told many people about the latest updates with Trae's wish, but it is our favorite subject in this house to talk about! So, for those who don't know what's going on, here's the latest:
Trae's official wish was to go to the beach and to swim with the dolphins. We heard from our "wish granter" a few months ago, and she asked if she could send us to Orlando, FL where Trae (and Luke and I) will be swimming with dolphins at Discovery Cove. She later asked if we would also like to go to Sea World and Universal Studios while we are in Florida. The answer is, of course, yes!
Well, a few weeks ago, we finally heard from them again with the official dates for the trip, which is June 22-27. We are flying out of Bloomington to Atlanta, then to Orlando, where we are staying. We are getting a ride in a limo to and from the airport in Bloomington. And basically everything else is being taken care of by them: new luggage, spending money, our itinerary, a car rental while we are there, food, hotel, EVERYTHING!
Everytime I start thinking about the trip, I just feel so blessed - like we've won a prise or something. But, I know this trip is really for Trae. He is the one who deserves it. He's gone through more in 7 1/2 years than I will ever go through! I could never say thank you enough to Make-a-Wish for what they are doing for us.
Only 9 more weeks! We are counting down!!!

It's been a while

It seems like so much, but yet so little has happened in the past few months to write about. I really have been waiting to write a new blog when something exciting happened, but, unfortunately, we are still waiting for that.
Trae is doing great since his surgery! He is back in school and back in gym class. Besides the scar on his chest, you'd never know he had major surgery only 4 months ago! I am so thankful that we actually made it through those 8 long days in the PICU and that he is back to, or better, than his old self!
As for Chad and I, we both still continue to look for work. God does keep providing for us every month to get through it. I have had a couple of interviews at St Francis but nothing has come yet. I really just keep reminding myself that God is not surprised by anything that happens in our lives, and that He does have a plan for us.
I am actually thankful now that I am not graduating like I planned this May. I realized that with everything that went on last semester (the layoff, the surgery and everything that goes along with that) I was in no way ready to graduate! Again, God knows what he's doing!
So, here's some pics of what's been going on the past few months:

Luke turned 6 in January! Here he is at his party with cousins Christian and Owen

The boys love playing in the snow with daddy. Here they are in the backyard, trying to make a snowman.

Aida and Riley helping me make cookies one afternoon :)

Trae did a Martin Luther King Jr play in his class one day. This is him in front of his paragraph he wrote.

We definitely have 3 rockers in our house!

Singing at RockChurch on Palm Sunday with their Sunday School class.
